I think someone on The Price Is Right is personally trying to keep the dream of manual transmissions in the USA alive.

I don’t watch a lot, but half of the vehicles I’ve seen lately have been manuals...

it used to be like that back in the day. Glad they are still giving away bare bone manual cars :]

normally it’s cause of the lower price bare bones model.

Guess it’a also a good way for the person to overbid too.

As others have said, it’s because they are giving away the cheapest, lowest-equipped cars possible.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t looked at new car options in a long time, but I thought the market had flipped on this in recent years. Meaning manual was more expensive because less availablity/stock.

(USA market anyway... I know other countries are primarily manuals).

I’m going to vote its because it is the least desirable version of the car, and therefore some dealer can afford to have it not on their lot for a few days for the filming.

Because they are always the bottom of the bottom models. Typically confirmed by floor mats being listed as a feature.

Most are cheap, yes. However, fun fact time! The most expensive car ever won on TPIR was a $157,300 Audi R8 Spyder back in 2013. Of course it was won by a little old lady. The most expensive car ever on the show was a Ferrari 458 Spider, but it wasn’t won.

most cars when well equipped don’t come with a manual option.

Normal economy cars that is, i’m sure you can get a fully equipped manual mustang.

MSRPs for manuals are usually lower, but you’ll actually pay MSRP to order a manual, whereas incentives and negotiation will be available on an automatic that’s already on the lot.

Nope. Manuals are still cheaper. For example, on my econobox, the Fiesta, adding an automatic (well, automated manual) gearbox tacks on an extra $1,000 to the sticker price.

IIRC, that’s also true for Mustangs.

Finding a manual in any of 3 different economy cars, on a lot, within dealer trading distance of my Southern US home proved VERY challenging recently. Special ordering was out of the question as it would eliminate all of the factory incentives and negotiating position with the dealers (and erase the point of the economy car). I ended up going slightly up-market to a car not previously on my go-to list but that one of the dealers found on another lot <100 miles away.

Totally worth the effort, save the manuals!!!

in 2010 when i was buying a new SX4 awd, I wanted all the options with the manual.

But no, Manuals only come in base. So I got the 6speed with optional fog lights and ipod connector.

I wanted upgraded stereo, heated seat, auto climate, and the keyless entry, but those only came with the Auto CVT.....
